Few years ago, during my own health transformation, i was all about changing my life routines to one that can actually sync with my body.

so many things we do that can have impact on our health - and not just food!

its in every aspect you can think about including our ORAL HEALTH CARE and this post is all about a big part of my oral care routine that each of you can actually add to his/her routine - oil pulling.

so what is oil pulling?

Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic remedy practiced in ancient India. It is believed as a way to oral detoxification and as a cure for systemic diseases when practiced regularly and in addition to offering several oral health benefits has also beneficial effects on overall health. it is simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth for 10–20 minutes.

the idea is that the oil is helps to pull and remove the bacteria out of the mouth and doing that each day will help to improve oral health and prevent cavities and disease.

iv'e been doing it back and forth for a while and to be honest iv'e never documented my teeth before and after iv'e been doing it back and forth and after these are the benefits i experienced from oil pulling-

1. Eliminates Bad Breath - one of my best experiences with oil pulling is it's effect on the bacteria that causes unpleasant breath odor by reducing the microorganisms that can cause it. One study showed that oil pulling can also fight oral malodor, which is bad breath caused by bacteria stuck in the oral cavity "oil pulling with sesame oil is equally efficacious as chlorhexidine in reducing oral malodor and microbes causing it. It should be promoted as a preventive home care therapy.” (1)i must say - i stopped consuming dairy (which is a big cause for bad breath) and not long after started doing oil pulling so i cannot give the credit intirely to the oil pulling but i DO feel the difference in my breath when i don't do it comparly to when i do! 2. reduced gums sensitivity - as i mentioned before, i didn't do it every day when i started and i kind of went back and forth with it so i actually could tell the difference in my gum sensitivity even from only two days of Two days of perseverance.A study found that oil pulling caused a significant decrease in plaque buildup When done consistently for seven days, and the results continued to improve the days after. By reducing the plaque, it also helps relieve swelling and inflammation that eventually causing sensitivity and pain. (2) 3. whiten the teeth - I do not have a proof image of before and after but If done daily, oil could remove some tooth staining and preventing their appearanceand, whice makes a lot of sense considering that I also remove makeup stains with it. Additional benefits associated with oil pulling are: Boost the immune system, Reduce inflammation, Improve Skin Health and Promote Digestive Health. the types of oils to use - sesame oil was the traditional one but i use cold pressed organic coconut oil. you can use any high quality plant based oils and it'll work the same way. i believe that coconut oil might be better for oil pulling because of its antibacterial and much more beneficial properties. few oil pulling guidlines-1. you should do the oil pulling first thing in the morning, before you brush your teeth or have a glass of water, on an empty stomach. you want to take out as much bacteria as possible so you try not to swallow anything.2. oil texture - well, solid oil is not for me. whenever i try to do it without melting the oil before i feel like i'm about to vomit and i spilt the oil out. melted oil is much better - especially for beginners.

3. start gradually - start with 1-2 teaspoons and go up when you feel comfortable with it. today i use 1-2 tablespoons every morning.

4. do not swish hard - do it slowly and gentle. youv'e got a long way to go so no rush, it will get everywhere and puting pressure is pressure you don't need on your jaws.

5. do not swallow!!! the oil will absorb all the bacteria that you want to get rid from. you really don't want to swallow it.

  1. First thing in the morning, take 1-2 teaspoons - 1 Tbsp of your oil (i use coconut) and start to slowly swishing it in your mouth.

  2. your goal is to clean the every corner in your mouth so Gently swish the oil all over and between your teeth for 10–20 minutes (i recommend to start with 10 min and slowly increase the time)

  3. important - Spit out the oil in the TRASH (not the sink so it doesn’t clog up the plumbing).

  4. last thing- brush your teeth as normal.

and that's it! pretty simple isn't it? hope this post was beneficial for any of you that was curios about it, and if you are starting to add oil pulling in the mornings, tell me how does it feels for you and if you felt any impact after a while!
